British Vogue, March 2024: from the crazy idea of bringing together 40 celebrities in a single shoot to an iconic and empowering cover
In March 2024, the fashion world and lovers of this universe had the opportunity to see a spectacle in Edward Enninful's last cover for British Vogue. In his latest issue, the ex-editor put 40 icons in the same photoshoot in New York.
Some of the stars who were present for the big moment included Oprah Winfrey, Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, Dua Lipa, Miley Cyrus, Jane Fonda, Salma Hayek Pinault, Kate Moss and Cynthia Erivo..
How can you imagine bringing all these icons together in one place and time for a cover? Iconic! The results of the shoot, to anyone who sees it, are full of energy and empowerment. They are real cover girls.
“When my last issue arrived, I knew the cover would be dedicated to women. Of course! Women have shaped British Vogue for almost 108 years and have certainly influenced every moment of my six-and-a-half-year tenure here, as well as leading and guiding me throughout my life”, Enninful said.
During his six years at the head of British Vogue, Edward sought to dare, to bring diversity and inclusion to our fashion world. His legacy has brought innovations to the magazine's editions, such as the 2019 issue dedicated to women over 50.
Another representative step which showed his ability to give a voice to relevant causes was during the pandemic, when the July 2020 issue included essential professionals in the combat of Covid-19: a train driver, a nurse midwife and a supermarket employee.
One more revolution he made during his time as editor-in-head was to put a man on the cover of the magazine for the first time. In October 2022, Timothée Chalamet, a French-American actor, debuted on the cover of British Vogue, inspiring men and women alike and breaking down gender boundaries in fashion.
